Metrics and an API for Green Computing on the Cloud (90 mins)
Sven van den Berghe
View Participants

Growing concerns for the environment mean that users of compute services will soon need to account for CO2 produced by their use these resources. This means that the energy or CO2 used by services must be visible to workload management systems and also reported to users and others. In cloud computing this requires commonly agreed and understood metrics to relate the execution of a service to the CO2 produced by the underlying resources and also an API that allows the reporting of CO2 and SLA negotiation using CO2 as a constraint. Following on from a session during OGF25 we will explore the basis for CO2 metrics from experiences and the requirements for CO2 reporting APIs.
